「used to　+　原形動詞」と「be（get） +　used to　+　動詞のing形（名詞）」

今日は「used to　+　原形動詞」と「be（get） +　used to　+　動詞のing形」について解説します。
まずは例文から見ていきましょう。

I used to want to be a lawyer but then I realised how hard they work!
私は弁護士になりたいと思っていた。しかし弁護士は大変な仕事だと気づいた。

How’s Boston? Are you used to the cold weather yet?
ボストンはどう？寒さにはもう慣れた？

No matter how many times I fly, I’ll never get used to take-off and landing!
何回飛行機にのっても離陸と着陸だけはなれない。

「used to　+　原形動詞」と「be（get） +　used to　+　動詞のing形」は見た目は似ているが、内容はまったく違います。

「used to　+　原形動詞」

「used to　+　原形動詞」は過去の状況を説明するものだが、その状況は現在には当てはまらないときに用いられる。

She used to be a long-distance runner when she was younger.
彼女は若いとき長距離走の選手だった。

I didn’t use to sleep very well, but then I started doing yoga and it really helps.
私はよく眠れなかったが、ヨガを始めたところよく眠れるようになった。

Did you use to come here as a child?
子供の頃ここに来てた？

「be（get） +　used to」

「be（get） +　used to」は、慣れるという意味。

She’s used to the city now and doesn’t get lost any more.
彼女は都会に慣れたので迷うことはなくなった。

He wasn’t used to walking so much and his legs hurt after the hike.
彼は歩きなれていないのでハイキングのあと彼は足を痛めた。

I’m a teacher so I’m used to speaking in public.
私は教師なので人前で話すことは慣れている。

Be used toとget used to はあとに名詞、代名詞、動詞のing形が用いられる。

I’m finding this new job hard but I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon.
新しい仕事は大変だ、でもすぐに慣れるでしょう。

It took my mother years to get used to living in London after moving from Pakistan.
パキスタンから引っ越してきた私の母がロンドンの生活に慣れるのにそうとう時間がかかった。

I’m getting used to the noise now. I found it really stressful when I first moved in.
