比較について解説します。
まずは例文からいきましょう。

Good-quality socks are almost as important as your running shoes.
質のいい靴下はランニングシューズと同じぐらい重要だ。

Our hotel room was exactly the same as the photos showed.
私たちのホテルの部屋は写真で見たのとまったく同じだ。

比較級

２つのものを比べどちらが優れているのかを表すのに用いられる文法。

＜例文＞
Max is taller than Judy.
マックスはジュディより背が高い。

You’re more patient than I am.
あなたは、私よりも我慢強い。

His first book is less interesting than his second.
彼の1作目の本は2作目ほど面白くない。

原級比較

比較して同じぐらいだったときは as ～ as
そうでなかったときは not as ～ as

＜例文＞
Her hair is as long as mine.
彼女の髪は私ぐらい長い。

It’s not as sunny as yesterday.
昨日ほど晴れていない。

違うことを強調する

different from | similar to | the same asなど

＜例文＞
England is different from the United Kingdom.
イギリスはグレート・ブリテン及び北部アイルランド連合王国とは違う。

His car is similar to mine.
彼の車は私のと似ている。

The results from the first test are the same as the results from the second.
最初のテストの結果は2番目のテストの結果と同じです。

大きな違いを表す

形容詞の前にmuch｜so much｜a lot | even | far などつけることで大きな違いを表現する。

Sales in July were a lot higher than sales in June.
7月の売り上げは6月よりかなり多い。

He was far less experienced than the other applicant.
彼は他の応募者にくらべかなり経験が浅い。

nowhere near + as … as

The interview was nowhere near as difficult as the written exam.
面接は筆記試験の難しさほどではなかった。

very | really | completely | totally + different from

They may be twins, but they’re completely different from each other.
彼らはたぶん双子、でもすべてが違う。

小さな違い

slightly | a little | a bit | a little bit | not much + 比較級の形容詞

The number of registrations has been slightly lower than we expected.
登録者数が予想していたより少し少なかった。

Houses in my city are not much more expensive than flats.
私の都市の戸建ての家はマンションよりそんなに高くない。

almost | nearly | not quite | roughly | more | less | about  +  as … as | the same as

She’s almost as old as I am.
彼女はほぼ私と同じ年齢だ。

The figures for May are more or less the same as the figures for June.
5月の数字は6月の数字とほぼ同じ。

very | really + similar to

My son looks really similar to my father when he was that age.
私の息子は私の父が息子の年だったころと本当に似ている。

ほとんど違いがないことを表現するにはexactly the same asやjust as … as を用いる。
